Consider an evaluation if you see substantial debris inside ductwork, evidence of pests, or suspected mold. A musty odor alone does not establish that mold is present. Moisture sources should be addressed; otherwise contamination may return. Ask what is actually visible and whether specialist assessment or remediation is needed.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency does not recommend routine duct cleaning as a blanket measure, and evidence has not established that cleaning alone prevents health problems. See the EPA homeowner guidance on duct cleaning.
Addresses debris in accessible duct system components when cleaning is warranted. Ask which components are included and how your home will be protected.
Address damaged or leaking duct connections; cleaning alone does not seal leaks. Explore duct repair and sealing.
May be appropriate for deteriorated or extensively damaged ductwork. Explore duct replacement.
Cleaning is not a substitute for identifying and correcting moisture. Suspected mold may need further evaluation; do not assume an odor or discoloration identifies it.
Not necessarily. Filters, equipment, duct leaks, crushed runs and system design can all affect airflow. An assessment should identify the cause.
